Safe Operation

1.27 Customers purchasing electric, petrol or diesel-powered machinery for domestic or commercial use are responsible for ensuring that they possess a basic level of knowledge and competency to safely assemble (where applicable), operate, and maintain the equipment.

1.28 Certain products may require some assembly prior to use, and customers must be confident in their ability to complete this safely. If you are not able to competently assemble, operate, or maintain the machinery yourself, it is your responsibility to ensure that a suitably qualified and capable person does so on your behalf.

1.29 Please also note that some machinery may be heavy and, although many products are designed with wheels or other features to assist with mobility, a suitable level of physical fitness and strength is required to handle and operate these products safely.

Delivery / Shipping

1.30 Your order will be processed and delivered without undue delay, and no later than 30 days after your order has been placed.

1.31 Please allow up to 7 working days for delivery to mainland UK addresses following the dispatch of your order, unless otherwise stated. Remote areas may take longer; please allow up to 10 working days for postcode areas in the Blue, Orange & Grey Delivery Zones as per our shipping map.

Access for Delivery

1.32 It is your responsibility to inform us in advance of any potential access issues that may affect delivery. This is particularly important for larger items such as garden tractors or large diesel generators, which are typically delivered using lorries fitted with tail lifts. Examples of access problems include, but are not limited to, narrow lanes, overhanging trees, restricted entrances, or limited turning areas.

1.33 Should any alternative delivery arrangements be required due to access restrictions, these will be made at your cost. We recommend contacting us prior to placing your order if you believe there may be access concerns at your delivery address.

Failed Delivery

1.34 If, for any reason, our courier is unable to complete the delivery because you refuse to take delivery, fail to provide appropriate instructions, a correct address, required documentation, or authorisations, the risk in the products shall pass to you at the point of attempted delivery.

1.35 We may store the products until successful delivery can be made, and you will be liable for all related and reasonable costs incurred, including storage and redelivery charges.

1.36 We also reserve the right to charge for failed delivery attempts. Such charges will be applied at the sole discretion of Machine Direct.

Large Diesel Generator Delivery

1.37 Please note that when purchasing a large diesel generator, you must have a forklift or suitable lifting equipment available on-site to offload the goods safely. Delivery is typically made via a large curtain-sided lorry.

1.38 If you do not have the necessary equipment, you will need to arrange for a Hiab delivery from your local delivery depot to offload at your address. Our team can discuss and advise on the most suitable delivery arrangements at the time of ordering.

Remote Delivery

1.39 Please note that remote UK locations are subject to extended delivery times. Please allow up to 10 working days for delivery.

1.40 Deliveries to certain locations, such as the Scottish Highlands, may incur a delivery surcharge. If you are unsure whether your location is affected, please contact us before placing your order.

Returns Policy

1.41 Customers have the right to cancel their order under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation & Additional Charges) Regulations. Business Customers are subject to our Business Terms.

1.42 Your right to cancel an order for goods starts the moment you place your order and ends 30 days from the day you receive your goods.

1.44 If you are in possession of the goods you are under the duty to retain them and take reasonable care of them.

1.45 If we are unable to identify or resolve the issue remotely, you may wish to return your product for further inspection, replacement, or refund as outlined below.

Important Safety Information

1.46 For the safety of our couriers and staff, we cannot accept returns of products that contain fuel or oil. Before arranging a return, please ensure that all fuel and oil have been completely drained from the machine. Failure to do so will result in the return being rejected, as the presence of flammable substances poses a serious risk of fire or injury.

Order Cancellation

1.47 If you place an order and wish to cancel it on the same day of purchase, please call us before 13:00 p.m (GMT). to prevent your order from being shipped. If your order has already been dispatched, it will need to be returned in line with our “Change of Mind” policy below.

Change of Mind Request

1.48 If you change your mind about a product, you may return it within 30 days of delivery, provided that:

  • The item is new, unused, and in its original, unopened packaging; and
  • You have contacted us to arrange the return in advance.

1.49 A 5% service charge will apply to cover carriage, handling, and restocking costs.
Once the item has been returned and inspected to confirm it is in new and unused condition, a refund will be issued via your original payment method.

Received Damaged

1.50 If your order arrives damaged, please ensure the damage is noted with the delivery driver at the time of delivery. You must then contact us within 24 hours of receipt to report the damage.

1.51 We will require photographic evidence of both the damaged item and the packaging in order to raise a claim with the courier. Once verified, we will arrange for collection and either a replacement or full refund.

Faulty Items

1.52 In the unlikely event that your machine develops a fault, please stop using it immediately to prevent further damage or risk to your safety.

1.53 If the fault occurs within 30 days of delivery, you may request a repair, replacement, or refund. In many cases, our technical team can diagnose and resolve issues over the phone, and we can often dispatch replacement parts directly for a quick fix.

1.54 Faults reported after 30 days of purchase will be handled in accordance with the manufacturers warranty terms and conditions.

1.55 Please note that we cannot offer refunds, replacements, or repairs for issues resulting from misuse, neglect, general wear and tear, or accidental damage. Such issues fall outside both our return and warranty policies.

Manufacturer Warranty Terms

1.56 Unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer, all warranty periods begin from the date of delivery and apply only to the original purchaser. The duration of the warranty period will be set out in the owners handbook and specified on our website on the product page.

1.57 The warranty applies to products used in a residential household environment and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. A “residential household environment” excludes any commercial, rental, income-generating, or competition use. Details of warranty coverage for commercial or professional use are available on request.

1.58 Warranty coverage is limited to defects in materials or workmanship under normal use and service conditions. It does not cover wear and tear, misuse, neglect, or damage caused by improper use, lack of maintenance, or use of non-genuine parts or accessories.

1.59 Only authorised service agents are permitted to carry out warranty repairs. Details of your nearest authorised repair agent can be provided on request.

1.60 The warranty does not cover the following (this list is not exhaustive):

  • Normal wear and tear;
  • Neglect, abuse, or misuse of the product;
  • Use of the product for purposes other than intended;
  • Failures caused by insufficient or incorrect maintenance or adjustment;
  • Use of non-genuine or incompatible parts and accessories;
  • Contamination or damage caused by stale or dirty fuel;
  • Failures due to lack of or improper lubrication;
  • Routine maintenance, servicing, and adjustments;
  • Incorrect assembly or fitting of parts
  • Bent or broken crankshafts or blades;
  • Failures caused by incorrect fuel or oil type;
  • Costs or losses incurred while the product is out of use for warranty repair.

1.61 Please note that batteries, gearboxes, and other components may have different warranty periods than the main machine. Specific details are available on request.

Manufacturer Warranty and Claims

1.62 All product warranties are provided in accordance with the manufacturer’s own terms and conditions. Machine Direct acts solely as a retailer and is not the manufacturer of the products.

1.63 Any warranty claim must be processed through the relevant manufacturer. We are happy to assist by providing contact details and facilitating communication, but we cannot authorise or determine warranty outcomes. The manufacturer’s decision is final in all cases.

1.64 If a product is returned for assessment and no fault is found, the customer may be charged for inspection, labour, and courier costs.

Warranty Registration and Coverage Area

1.65 Product warranties are valid only for customers located within the United Kingdom.

1.66 To validate your warranty, you must register your product with the manufacturer within 30 days of purchase. Registration can usually be completed via the manufacturer’s website or by submitting a registration form by post.

1.67 If you have any questions regarding warranty coverage, registration, or claims, please contact our support team for assistance.

  • Product malfunction, failure, or defect (whether or not under warranty);

1.71 You acknowledge that it is your responsibility to arrange any backup equipment, cover, or contingency plans necessary to mitigate potential downtime or business interruption.
